In GIS development there is a constant need for improvement in performance of available spatial functionalities, because of the big amount of complex data.
Development isn’t fixated on one technology and new solutions and improvements are always taken in consideration. Oracle database offers a wide range of spatial functionalities through Oracle Spatial, and with arrival of new, 12c version, a lot of enhancements are promised, which also includes performance tweaks. Improvements are best tested through comparison other available options. Through several use cases, this paper will compare the new 12c Oracle Spatial with PostGIS extension for PostgreSQL database.
The conference is organized by the Croatian Association of Oracle users. More about the association can be found at Hroug.hr.
